Meet Mike

Mike Thomas is a real estate agent with special experience and a unique understanding of
Chapel Hill and its neighboring communities. His entire focus is on helping his clients, be they buyers or sellers achieve the most satisfying outcome when buying or selling a home in this area.
Before getting his real estate license, Mike Thomas worked as a Chapel Hill Police Officer. This work experience enabled him to learn the ins and outs of
Chapel Hill in a way that few people can match. It also led him to decide to pursue a career in real estate, where his intimate knowledge of the community would be a unique asset to those interested in moving from one neighborhood to another or relocating from another part of the country as he did in 1993.
Mike is actively involved in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro community. He is active in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, where he serves as an “Ambassador” helping new businesses get successfully established in the community. He is also a member of the Chapel Hill/Carrboro YMCA where he teaches an exercise class. He and his wife Meg live just outside of
Chapel Hill with their two daughters, Hannah and Rebecca. They both attend
Efland-Cheeks
Elementary school , where Mike is a member of the
PTA .
Mike Thomas' Background
Mike grew up on
Long Island ,
NY . After completing High School, Mike enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the elite 82nd Airborne Division in Ft Bragg, NC, where he served as a medic. Serving in the Army put Mike in close personal contact with people from all over the country and all walks of life. He recalls “I guess I must have had a pretty strong NY accent. I could elicit howls of laughter from my roommates at airborne school just by saying the word ‘dawg’ “he says with a smile. “I didn’t have the heart to tell those poor guys that they were the ones who talked funny”. While in the Army, Mike attained the rank of Sgt. and participated in the Panama conflict, during which he, along with others from his unit parachuted behind enemy lines to secure the airport.
Upon leaving the service, Mike studied Biology and Chemistry at Campbell University where he graduated with honors. While attending Campbell, a mutual friend introduced him to his future wife, Meg, who owned and operated a clothing store in downtown Chapel Hill. “When Meg and I started dating, I remember thinking that Chapel Hill was the coolest place on earth – intellectual and quirky at the same time”. After completing his degree, Mike moved to Chapel Hill and continued to see Meg. They married in 1995 and bought their first home together in a neighboring town. “I remember waiting down the street for the seller’s moving van to drive off. Once they were gone, we ran inside like kids running downstairs on Christmas morning. It was a very exciting time”.
Mike performed laboratory work and eventually obtained a general supervisor position at a quality assurance laboratory in the pharmaceutical industry. Mike owes much of his attention to detail to his time spent in this industry. Mike left lab work to help Meg expand operations at her clothing store. The experience was invaluable in developing his customer service skills. “Helping Meg with the store was a real eye opener. Until then I didn’t really have a lot of sales experience. In any sales job, you’ve got to dig a little to get to the customers real motivation. Most people have a hard time articulating exactly what the want. A real sales pro can get his customer what they want, not just what they’re asking for”. |

"Being new to the home buying experience was nerve-wracking enough, but being new to the area made things even more difficult. Mike was patient, explaining things thoroughly, and giving us great information all along the process. We looked at more than 20 houses over 12 months, and Mike never pushed or hurried us to make a deal. Mike was always available, even on his vacation, and kept in contact with us long after the deal, making sure we were satisfied. Overall, I couldn't think of a better first experience, and have recommended him to many friends and colleagues."

"I am writing to thank you for you wonderful assistance in helping my wife and I with our purchase of our property in Efland, North Carolina. We had been to other realtors and none came close to the attention and effort you displayed. Since it was only a land purchase most realtors seemed content to give us a list of properties and vague directions and send us on our way. Since we are from Florida, and not familiar with the area this made the task very time consuming and frustrating. When we meet with you, you had a list of properties that you thought fit our requirements and then spent 2 days taking us to them and answering any questions we had about the area. Your estimate of what we were looking for was right on target not only that, you devoted a tremendous amount of time driving all over the area with us. That kind of commitment to a process that at best would yield a small commission speaks to the kind of professional that you are. We are very grateful for your efforts and would highly recommend you to anyone interested in any purchases in your area. Thanks again,"
