Veterans Day – Watch the You Tube Video of the Veterans Day Recognition. Town of Chapel Hill employees who are veterans or who have family members in active duty were recognized for their service and sacrifice by the Mayor and Town Council on Veterans Day 2008. Harv Howard, solid waste-fleet maintenance superintendent, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the employees.
Planning for Carolina North – A proposal for developing a satellite campus for UNC-Chapel Hill was released on Dec. 2, 2003. Named Carolina North, the campus would cover 250 acres of the Horace Williams Tract’s 1,000 acres and be built in phases over the next 50 years. The property lies just to the north of Estes Drive adjacent to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Community Safety Partnership Announced – Employees from the towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough, and the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) will contribute their eyes and ears to better deter criminal activity and identify potential public safety hazards in a newly formed cooperative venture named the Community Safety Partnership. Town Caps Available
